Behind the Headlines

As many of you know, I travel on US government business to Latin America several times a month. In the course of these trips I meet a lot of high-level people, and see and hear things that are simply not available to normal travelers. I would like to talk a little about what is going on in the southern regions, behind the visible events and headlines. What is the FARC really up to? Where do successful billion-dollar embezzlers go to feel safe? What do the Shining Path and cocaine traffickers have in common? Which "democracies" are only pretending? What on earth is the US military doing down there, and why? All these and more are topics that we can cover, up to the limits of my security clearance.

Weather permitting, we will be outside on the deck. We have a biggish outdoor hot tub, so bring your bathing suits.

FOOD! FOOD! FOOD!

This is a BYO pot-luck party, but we will provide a variety of cold cuts, various types of bread, and cold soft drinks. Everything else is up to all of you.
